GetSpec — Privacy Policy

GetSpec is a browser extension that shows specifications, prices and Reddit discussion for the phone or laptop you are viewing on supported shopping and manufacturer websites in India.

What GetSpec does with data

• Reads the product page you are on (title, price, breadcrumbs, spec table) to identify the product. This happens locally in your browser.
• Fetches public information about that product from third-party sites: Amazon.in and Flipkart (prices), GSMArena (phone specifications), manufacturer websites and Lenovo PSREF (laptop specifications), Bing and DuckDuckGo (to locate the official page), and Reddit (posts). These requests contain only the product name or model number.
• Stores your preferences locally (panel position, which sections are open, an on/off switch) using Chrome's extension storage. Reddit and GSMArena results are cached locally for a short time to reduce repeat requests.

What GetSpec does not do

• It does not collect, transmit or sell personal data. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking.
• It does not read pages other than the supported product pages listed in its permissions.
• It does not send your browsing history anywhere.

Feedback

If you use the “Not right?” button, the product name, the page link, the extension version and your optional message are sent to the maintainer so detection can be fixed. Nothing else is included, and nothing is sent unless you press “Send feedback”.

Optional backend

If you deploy and configure the optional GetSpec backend (a Cloudflare Worker you host yourself), the extension sends the product identity and the price you saw to your backend to compute price ranges. This is off unless you set a backend URL in the extension's settings.

Permissions explained

• Site access to shopping and manufacturer sites — to read the product page and show the panel.
• Access to GSMArena, Reddit, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Lenovo PSREF and brand sites — to fetch public specifications, posts and official pages for the product.
• Storage — to remember your preferences and short-lived caches.
• Offscreen — to parse fetched HTML pages in the background.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. Continued use of the extension after a change means you accept the updated policy.
